AF Space Command’s Guardian Challenge competition 2010 saw something a bit different this year. The 689th Combat Communications Wing decided not to roll in via the bus, but to present themselves ‘Combat Comm style’ by marching into the competition festivities and letting out a big “COMBAT COMM!… FEAR THE BEAST!” war cry.
“Our Combat Comm Airmen just couldn’t ride the bus into the opening ceremonies, it’s really not how we roll…said Capt. Scott Hinck, 689th CCW, GC project officer. “Our Team Wrangler, liaison NCO, Staff Sgt. Lynda Fauland, was caught a little off guard as we didn’t stick to the program but I think that we showed those in attendance what being in Combat Comm is really all about – ‘making it happen’ – setting up bare bases and providing combat communications in the most austere locations around the world.”
