The Bear Creek Fire on Vandenberg’s South Base-1,253 total acres burned-is now 90 percent contained, according to Vandenberg Fire Department officials.
“A few small pockets remain but nothing is threatening the line,” said Wayne Seda, assistant fire chief at Vandenberg’s Fire Department.
Successful burnout operations Friday evening, which reinforced established fire breaks, as well as steady rain throughout the night were key to firefighting operations.
“We’ll be doing some extra break line reinforcement this morning and we’ll monitor what remains of the fire throughout the day,” said Seda.
