The crew of space shuttle Discovery awoke at 9:26 p.m. EDT to “Stairway to the Stars” by Ella Fitzgerald, played for Mission Specialist Stephanie Wilson, who will operate the International Space Station’s robotic arm to support today’s spacewalk.
The second spacewalk is the main focus of today’s work as shuttle Mission Specialists Rick Mastracchio and Clay Anderson venture outside at 2:16 a.m. Sunday. With robotic assistance from the station’s arm, the pair will install a new, fully-charged ammonia tank and install it on the truss, or backbone, of the station. Then they’ll prepare the depleted tank for its return to Earth. The spacewalk, planned to last 6.5 hours, will be choreographed by Dottie Metcalf-Lindenburger.
