Three hours, fifty minutes into today’s spacewalk, Rick Mastracchio and Clayton Anderson are having difficulty securing the four bolts that hold the depleted Ammonia Tank Assembly on a carrier in space shuttle Discovery’s cargo bay.
Also, Mission Control has been unable to fully activate the new Ammonia Tank Assembly on the starboard truss due to a stuck nitrogen supply valve. The nitrogen provides pressure to the ammonia loops. Engineers and managers are evaluating the issue.
During one of the frequent safety checks the spacewalkers perform, Anderson noted a slight cut on his left glove. The cut did not penetrate the tough Vectran layer, so Mission Control has no concerns.
