The POW Medal was presented to WW II Army Air Corps SSgt. Charles Brudo at
the request of USAF (ret) Col Vincent Fonke who was the pilot of the ill
fated B-17 that was abandoned after heavy damage by German fighters on Aug
16, 1944; both were taken prisoner and liberated on April 29, 1945. (U.S.
