Three Calgarians and a Lake Louise resident remain in the running to be part of a one-way mission to Mars, following the first round of candidate eliminations. Dutch non-profit organization Mars One is leading the mission, with the goal of establishing a human colony on the red planet starting in 2024. In December, Mars One announced it had selected 1,058 potential astronauts from 200,000 applicants. Medical examinations and voluntary withdrawals have now narrowed that number to just 705.
