The Sentinel-2A satellite takes us over Rome’s Castelli area in this natural-colour image acquired on 17 January 2016.
South of Italy’s capital, Lake Albano is clearly visible on bottom right, while the town of Frascati, home to ESA’s Earth Observation Centre, is located just further north.
Sentinel-2A was launched on 23 June 2015, primarily to monitor land and vegetation for Europe’s environmental monitoring Copernicus programme. This new satellite carries a high-resolution instrument that covers 13 spectral bands with a swath width of 290 km.
