’Deflecting asteroids’ being presented by Ian Carnelli at the ESA Pavilion

’Deflecting asteroids’ being presented by Ian Carnelli (ESA Programme Manager) at the ESA Pavilion on 25 June 2017, during the Paris Air and Space Show.

Asteroids carry with them old tales of the universe and secrets about the formation of our Solar System. Thousands of these mysterious, ancient and fascinating objects in their orbits around the sun come close to our planet… sometimes too close, as shown by the many scars left by past impacts. Could this happen again? During his presentation, ESA expert explained asteroid deflection and outlined why a precursor mission is important.
