Abstract: A simple adaptive thinning methodology for Atmospheric Infrared Sounder (AIRS), Cross-track Infrared Sounder (CrIS) and Infrared Atmospheric Sounding Interferometer (IASI) radiances is evaluated through a combination of Observing System Experiments (OSEs) and adjoint methodologies. In addition, the impact of cloud-cleared radiances for AIRS is also evaluated.
