Abstract: A recent study (Tong et al. 2017) shows a rapid intensification of dust storm activity over the southwestern United States in the past decades. For example, the frequency of windblown dust storms has increased 240 percent from 1990s to 2000s. Increasing dust storms can worsen air quality in the region.
