Abstract: In magmatic systems, the availabil- ity of excess oxygen that can react with multivalent elements such as Fe and S to change their charge (oxi- dation of Fe2+ to Fe3+ or reduction of S6+ to S2-) is characterized by a parameter called the oxygen fugacity (ƒO2).
