Engineers to Discuss GUCp, Foam in Meetings Today

Engineers will meet today to discuss evaluation and repair options for shuttle Discovery’s ground umbilical carrier plate, or GUCP. Discovery’s launch has been delayed until at least Nov. 30 because of a hydrogen gas leak at the GUCP. Work is expected to begin tomorrow. Engineers also will look at a crack in the external fuel tank foam that was detected as liquid propellants were drained from the tank.
