Building a better way to figure out how cells work

When the best tool for the job isn’t good enough, engineers figure out how to build a new one. That’s what biomedical engineers did with a technique called traction force microscopy (TFM), which is commonly used by scientists, engineers, and biophysicists to measure the forces generated by cells on their surrounding environments.
