The northern lights may be beautiful, but the nitric oxide they leave behind can impact Earth’s ozone supply. To understand this abundance of nitric oxide in the polar atmosphere, NASA will launch the Polar Night Nitric Oxide or PolarNOx experiment on Jan. 26 from the Poker Flat Research Range in Alaska.
