For the fourth time since 1978, ESA is recruiting new astronauts. With applications received from March 31st 2021, four to six new members of the European Astronaut Corps will be selected, along with a newly-created reserve pool who can be assigned to specific missions. The last call for new astronauts was in 2008, when six successful candidates were appointed – and one more succeeded in 2015.
This A&B Roll highlights the selection process and describes ESA’s focus on diversity, including the Parastronaut Feasibility Project to include applicants with physical disabilities – with soundbites in English, French, Italian and German.
