Earth could exceed 1.5 degrees Celsius of global warming—the “safe” limit for temperature rise outlined in the Paris Agreement—as soon as the early 2030s, according to a landmark report by the world’s most senior climate scientists. Even in the most optimistic scenario, where the global community manages to significantly rein in greenhouse gas emissions, there is still only a 50:50 chance that global temperature rise will stop there.
