First Microgravity Experiment Flown on Project Mercury

In June 1962, NASA’s first microgravity experiment was flown on Astronaut Scott Carpenter’s mission to orbit the Moon. The experiment, designed by researchers at NASA Lewis Research Center (now NASA Glenn), provided the nation’s first long-duration study of fluid physics in a microgravity environment.
