Many consider October 4, 1957 as the official start of space exploration because on that day, the first human-made Earth satellite, Sputnik 1, was launched into the orbit.
And it was 10 years later, again on October 10, 1967, that the Outer Space Treaty was signed and set out basic principles for the peaceful use of space.
Happy World Space Week everyone!
