Ontario residents report bright fireball flashing across the sky, Canada


A bright fireball lit up the sky over Ontario, Canada, on January 28, 2025. Witnesses reported that the event lasted a few seconds, with colors ranging from white to orange and green. The American Meteor Society (AMS) estimated that the fireball’s path began above Combermere and traveled south toward Marmora.

The American Meteor Society (AMS) received five reports of a fireball observed over Ontario, Canada, at approximately 08:54 UTC on January 28, 2025. The event lasted about 3 – 4 seconds.

One AMS witness from Ontario described the event as a bright white flash that disappeared below the treeline. Another witness from Ontario also reported the object as white and called it an amazing sight.

Margaret from Campbellford, Ontario, reported seeing orange, yellow, and white colors, stating that the event lasted for about three seconds. “It was very bright and low in the sky. It seemed to be very large and so close,” she said.

Alei from Barrie reported that the event lasted less than one second and appeared light green.

Based on these witness reports, AMS estimated that the event began above Combermere and traveled south toward Marmora.
