A bright fireball streaked over the skies of Karachi, Pakistan, at around 21:43 UTC on Sunday (02:43 local time (LT) on Monday, March 17). The fireball was seen across the region, with multiple sightings reported across the Sindh region.
A clip recorded from a moving vehicle shows a bright green streak flashing across the sky before sparking and turning fiery orange.
Another clip shows the fireball glowing orange before fading into the darkness.

Fireballs occur when large meteoroids—space rocks ranging from a few centimeters to meters in size—enter Earth’s atmosphere at speeds exceeding 40 000 km/h (25 000 mph), producing a bright light visible over wide areas, including Sindh. While March is not associated with major meteor showers, sporadic bolides like this are not uncommon, as thousands of meteors enter Earth’s atmosphere daily.
This is not the first time Karachi and Sindh have witnessed such an event. In January 2022, a similar fireball illuminated the night sky, gaining widespread attention on social media and captivating residents.
In Pakistani culture, these “shooting stars” (shahab thaqib) are often met with wonder, sometimes regarded as omens or simply as natural spectacles.
