Asteroid 2025 PU1 flew past Earth at 0.08 LD on August 13


This is the 10th closest asteroid flyby in the past 12 months, the 85th known to fly past Earth within 1 lunar distance since the start of the year and the third so far this month.

Asteroid 2025 PU1 was first observed at GINOP‑KHK, Piszkesteto in Hungary at 23:55 UTC on August 13 — about 4 hours after it made the closest approach.

The asteroid belongs to the Apollo class of asteroids and has an estimated diameter between 2 and 3 m (6.6–9.8 feet). This size places it among the smaller asteroids recorded passing within 1 LD of Earth this year.

Its next approach to Earth is expected on April 3, 2036, at a distance of 0.080 AU.
