Vlog 23: Relaxing aboard Orion

In this vlog, Canadian Space Agency astronaut Jeremy Hansen explains what he will do during his rare time off on his nearly 10 days in space. The schedule will be busy with experiments, equipment testing and technical tasks, but the crew will also have some time of their own. Watch to learn more! Jeremy Hansen: I hope to get a little bit bored at some point during the mission and just spend some time reflecting.

So on our nine-day mission, a lot of the time is very heavily subscribed; we have lots of little experiments we’re going to do and tests on the capsule.

We’ll have downtime for sleeping, of course. And we’ll also take a little bit of personal time during those nine days.

Of course, we’re going to spend time communicating back to Earth and doing downlinks, which will be really neat to share our experience.

Obviously, an important pastime for us is going to be observing out the windows and looking at the Moon and the Earth and taking imagery of that. We have four of these windows, and today the view is out into Building 9, of course.

But when we’re in space, we’ll be able to look out and see things like the Earth and the Moon, and there is actually one more window, right where that blue cover is, that is a window, that silver blue cover.

We’ll have two cameras on board for the crew. One is really meant for inside photography and video work, and the other lens is meant for outside, to take imagery of the Moon and the Earth.

We’ll have noise cancelling headsets as well as music when we’re exercising, to listen to.

I’m not really bringing anything with me to entertain myself. I hope to get a little bit bored at some point during the mission and just spend some time reflecting, maybe journalling a little bit, writing down my thoughts and perspective on the journey.
