Sophie Adenot photographs the International Space Station from inside the Cupola, its panoramic observation window. Floating in microgravity, the European Space Agency astronaut captures images to support operations in orbit.
At the time of this image, Sophie is taking pictures of the Station’s Solar Array Wings (SAW) as part of a survey to monitor their condition. These structures provide the power needed to keep the Station running, and regular imaging helps teams on the ground assess their performance over time.
The Cupola, with its seven windows, offers one of the best vantage points in space for observing the Station and operating cameras, making it a key location for both operational and scientific activities.
Alongside scientific experiments and technical maintenance tasks during her mission, Sophie also documents life and work in orbit, sharing unique perspectives from space with people around the world.
