AF Historical Foundation presents award to AFSPC member

In what started as a ‘summons’ to attend a routine commander’s directors meeting last week evolved into a surprise presentation of the Air Force Historical Foundation’s School of Advanced Air and Space Studies Award.

Maj. Karl Schrader, chief of AFSPC Cyber Strategic Studies, was met by Gen. C. Robert Kehler, commander of Air Force Space Command, while waiting to be called in when he was asked by the general why he thought he was there.

“I explained to Gen. Kehler why I thought I was there and he said ‘No, that’s actually not why… you’re here to receive an award,” smiled Major Schrader. “I walked in and all the directors were there and somehow they had arranged for my wife and three children to also attend without my knowledge. They were sitting there on the front row–all smiles–I was rather surprised…I was not prepared for that type of meeting,” he laughed.
